Today I am thankful for other people's trash, as funny as that sounds, it's true! I think just as much as like going shopping, I love taking trips to the dumpster and finding treasures! For the longest time now i had been shopping around (in stores lol) for some cute accent chairs for my apartment but everything I had found usually ranged from $75 - $100 and that is simply way out of budget for me. So I took a few trips to my local dumpster, and one day i finally found some chairs that seemed "makeover worthy" so I brought them home. My hubby was a little confused but I told them that this would make me happy so he went along with it. :) here's a before picture of what the trashy chairs looked like...
So the first thing I did was to figure out how the cushion was attached to the chair. I found that it was screwed in the metal, so I went ahead and unscrewed the cushion out like this.
This specific chair had five screws. When I was done unscrewing the cushion, I started to spray paint the metal structure of the chair.
I had to give it a couple coats and rotate the chair in different directions to make sure everything was covered in red. Next, I used the fabric of a pretty & matching curtain I had bough at Lowes, but any outdoor fabric will work too. I wrapped up my cushion with it and pasted it with hot glue. This is probably ideal to do with a staple gun but I don't have one so I improvised and it worked!
I made corner cuts and wrapped it up tightly.
When I was done wrapping up the cushion, I screwed it back up to the painted and dried metal structures and I was done! I wanted to make really unique chairs so I made sure my fabric matched lots of colors so I could paint my chairs with different colors for a more whimsical look :)
Pretty huh? So, today I am very thankful for that stranger neighbor who threw them out <3
